Kim Joo-sung (born January 17, 1966 in Gangwon-do , South Korea ) is a former South Korean national soccer player. With the South Korean national team he took part in three World Cups in a row and was Asian Football Player of the Year three times in a row.

Career

After he played for the South Korean teams Chosun University and Daewoo Royals , he was bought by VfL Bochum . In the 1992/93 season he came to 13 Bundesliga games, in the following season, due to the sporting descent of the Bochum club, to 21 second Bundesliga games and an additional four goals. Since Kim Joo-sung claimed that his strength came from his long hair, he was nicknamed "Little Samson" and "Yasaengma" ("wild horses" from Korean).

National team

With the South Korean national soccer team , he reached the finals of the World Cup three times in a row in 1986 , 1990 and 1994 , but remained without a win in all three tournaments. In addition, Kim Joo-sung was named Asia's Footballer of the Year for three consecutive years from 1989 to 1991 . In the election of Asia's Footballer of the Century, he came second after Cha Bum-kun .
