Kim Kyung-ju (born July 14, 1976 in Gwangju ) is a South Korean poet .

Life

Kim Kyung-ju was born on July 14, 1976 in Kwangju . He made his debut in 2003 by participating in the Seoul Sinmun Spring Literature Competition . His first lyrical work I am a season that does not exist in this world (나는 이 세상에 없는 계절 이다) he published in 2006. A total of over 10,000 copies were sold.

Often the narrators in Kim's poems are characters who go from place to place without stopping. Like nomads, the narrators refuse to settle anywhere and enjoy exploring the limits of their freedom. In the midst of these journeys they feel the intimate essence of life.

Like the author's confession in this poem, the narrator does not reflect quietly and in a closed space on life, but directly grasps the dynamic flow of life on the street.

Kim writes from different perspectives in order to preserve the 'poetic' in a world that has turned its back on poetry. He tries to overcome the crisis poetry is in by negotiating with other art genres. For this he not only writes poetry, but is also interested in performances and events such as exhibitions and readings. He also participates in many cultural activities such as theater, musicals and independent filmmaking as well as literature. With his experience from these activities, he tries to enable problem-free communication between young poets, writers and their readers by organizing literary festivals.

Recently in particular, he has been indulging in performance poetry , in which poets do not simply appear on stage and present their works. Instead, the poets memorize their work and play it for the audience like a short play. In this way, he tries to show other people that reading a poem does not just mean reading it aloud, but is a separate kind of art that has a typical narrative structure in which different forms of art are united. Kim believes that poetry is at the forefront of the art of language and believes there is a need to experiment with poetry in order for it to become a real art.
