Kinarut Mansion ( Mal. Rumah Besar Kinarut ) refers to the listed ruins of a former mansion in Greco-Roman style near Kinarut in the Malaysian state of Sabah .

The former mansion is located on a wooded hill near Kinarut above Sungai Kawang . The house, built between 1910 and 1914, was one of the few stone houses that existed in Sabah at the time. It was built in brick with whitewashed walls by an Indian builder who commanded an army of 200-300 workers from Java. The manor house with its outdoor facilities extended over an area of ​​about two hectares. A 200 meter long avenue of Greco-Roman columns led to the main entrance. The house itself had 45 doors, 152 windows and was lit by 42 huge kerosene chandeliers.

history

The building was erected in 1910 by the German WFC Asimont. Was Asimont the first manager of the rubber plantation Kinarut Rubber Estate , the British company to Manchester North Borneo Ltd belonged. The plantation was founded between 1910 and 1911 and with its more than ten square kilometers was the second largest plantation on the west coast of Sabah after the Sapong Estate . Asimont died in Surabaya, Indonesia in 1919 and was buried in Singapore. The abandoned house was partially destroyed by the North Borneo Chartered Company in 1923 for reasons no longer known today .

The site, known as the Kinarut Mansion Panorama , was added to the Sabah Historic Site List on August 22, 1994.
