The Baku Children's Railway ( Azerbaijani Azərbaycan Dövlət Uşaq Dəmir Yolu ) was a narrow-gauge children's railway in the Azerbaijani capital Baku . It ran on a 1.05 km long line with a gauge of 750 mm between two terminal stations through Şəhriyar Park (formerly Dzerzhinsky Park). The line opened on August 10, 1947 as one of the many pioneer railroads in the Soviet Union . It was decommissioned and dismantled in June 2009.

history

The idea of building a children's railway in Baku dates back to 1945. The decision of the Council of Ministers of Azerbaijan on June 15, 1946 determined the beginning and the end of the construction of the railway. Construction began on March 14, 1947 and ended on May 1, 1947. The railway line was in Dzerzhinsky Park (later Şəhriyar Park). Schoolchildren and students from Baku also helped build the railway. About 120 young railroad workers were involved in the work. The Baku Children's Railway opened on August 10, 1947. The first director of the Baku Children's Railway was M. Akhundov. The Zoopark station had three tracks so that the locomotives could be moved to the other end of the train. Bagar station had a triangular track for turning trains, but this was later dismantled.

Originally two phases were planned according to the construction plan. The first section in Dzerzhinsky Park led to the Republican Stadium, which existed there until 2009, and the second section should lead into the Montin settlement, so that the track would have had a total length of four kilometers. But the second section was not built. So there was only the 1050 meter long route from Dzerzhinsky Park to the Republican Stadium.

During the early 1990s, the children's railroad lost its importance and was removed from the list of Azerbaijani State Railways . As a result, she found herself in a crisis. However, since January 2002, the Baku Children's Railway has again received increased interest, and the decision of the 1990s was deemed wrong. The warehouses were repaired and modernized, the rails were replaced in some places, and the signals and contacts were completely renovated. In June 2002 the line was put back into operation after the repair work.

In June 2009, the children's railway in Baku was shut down and dismantled and brought to the Biləcəri reservoir, where it was occasionally rebuilt, but this has not yet been carried out.
