The building of the former kindergarten Landreiterstraße 29 in Schwerin , district Schelfstadt , is a monument in Schwerin . It was converted into a residential building.

history

Until 1969 the land on Landreiterstraße extended to the Ziegelsee ; since then the new Knaudtstrasse has separated it from the lake.

An originally single-storey half-timbered building dates from before 1757. In 1839 the Patriotic Association bought the building in order to run an "educational and custodial institution for poor little children". The Schwerin women's association looked after the facility and employed two women who, in addition to the voluntary members, looked after around 100 children between the ages of three and six every day. The children were taught the beginnings of writing, reading and arithmetic.

In 1880, the renovation, the addition of storeys to the courtyard side and a wing extension for the small children's waiting school took place . In 1887 the ailing half-timbered facade on the street side was demolished. The representatively decorated brick facade with the round arches and windows with a segment arch was made from dark red and black glazed bricks .

The 11 × 7 meter large hall facing the courtyard was built in 1892 and served as a lounge and school room. In addition, a small half-timbered room, side rooms and toilets were created. There was continuous childcare in preschool age from 1835 to 1992; last there were 29 children.

After a long period of vacancy, the building was converted into a residential building in 1998 and renovated in accordance with the requirements of a listed building. The brick and the rear half-timbered facade, the old room layout, the staircase and the front door were retained. The new windows correspond to the old model. The hall was given a gallery floor so that it can be used on two levels.
