Children's opera Papageno

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The children's opera Papageno was founded in 1994 as the first Austrian mobile children's opera by Peter Pacher in Vienna . The children's opera Papageno is organized as a non-profit association.

The children's opera Papageno has set itself the goal of making classical music accessible to a wider children's audience. Without a permanent venue, the children's opera has become a regular guest in many German-speaking schools and theaters. As a librettist and director , Peter Pacher tries above all to work on operas in such a way that the children's first contact with the opera genre is not also their last. This means that even difficult operas such as Fidelio or Carmen are moderated with humor in order to arouse joy in further opera performances.

The workshops are primarily aimed at schools . The children's opera offers extensive preparation and follow-up material to prepare and deepen the experience. On average, the children's opera puts on around 400 performances per year in the entire German-speaking area.

The ensemble initially consisted of young graduates from the Vienna University of Music and the Conservatory of the City of Vienna . In the meantime, however, it has always been possible to tie already established artists to the children's opera Papageno, at least for a short time.

Many members of the ensemble from the very beginning have now made careers and are employed at various opera houses throughout the German-speaking region.
