history

The first Turkish Child Protection Association was founded on May 1, 1917 as an association under the name Himaye-i Etfal Cemiyeti (“Society for the Protection of Children”) in Istanbul. The association primarily looked after children who had lost their families in the turmoil of World War I, and opened an “inn for children” in Firuzağa with a hundred places. The last general meeting of this association took place in 1923. After that, work was stopped.

On June 30, 1921, supporters of the republican movement in Ankara also founded a child protection association. In 1937 he was granted non-profit status. The child protection association as an association was dissolved after the military coup of 1980 by decision of the National Security Council ( Millî Güvenlik Kurulu ). The Ministry of Health initially took over the tasks of the association. In 1991 the Child Protection Association was dissolved and its tasks were incorporated into the Prime Minister's office.
