King's College Taunton is a private boarding school in Taunton in Somerset, southwest England .

history

The school, which was founded about 125 years ago, has 420 students between the ages of 13 and 18. Of these, about 320 students live in the school as so-called “boarders”. There are seven boarding houses: Bishop Fox, King Alfred, Woodard (after Nathaniel Woodard) Tuckwell, Meynell, Taylor and Carpenter. All of these houses, plus Neates, which no longer exist, were "boarding" houses for boys until the early 1970s. Meynell and Taylor went on to become girls 'boarding houses, and Carpenter went on to become girls' boarding houses in the mid-1990s. After Mr. Ramsey, Mr. Richard Biggs, previously the Second Principal of Lancing College ’s in West Sussex, took over the reins of the school in September 2007.

The boarding school is one of the richest schools in Europe with an estimated private fortune of around £ 390 million . The school's equipment includes laboratories, a design center, a single music department and a large art department, a sports hall with a fitness room, a swimming pool, twelve rugby courts, three hockey fields, four cricket fields, eight tennis courts, a park and several computer rooms. In addition, all rooms have SKY connections, WiFi and each house has its own TV room.

Awards

  • In 2007 the school choir won first place in the BBC's Songs of Praise.
  • The senior rugby team won "The National Schools 7's".
