King Street is one of several major east-west running business and major thoroughfares in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The road was named after King George III. named. At the time the street was built, the city, then called York, was part of the British monarchy. King Street is crossed by The Queensway to the west, Roncesvalles Avenue to the north and Queen Street West to the east.

The Toronto Transit Commission operates tram line 504 on King Street. The line, which is used by around 50,000 passengers every day, connects to St. Andrew 's subway station on the Yonge University Line University Avenue with King Subway Station on Yonge Street . Furthermore, the Dundas West and Broadview underground stations are connected by the Bloor Danforth Line .

Several exclusive restaurants, bars, boutiques, clubs and art galleries have settled here in recent years. There are also plenty of clubs and discos on the street for night owls. The Rogers Center , Air Canada Center , the Distillery District , Hockey Hall of Fame , Roy Thomson Hall , a large theater, the Sony Center for the Performing Arts , St. Lawrence Market and the historic King Edward Hotel are also in close proximity .

Canada's Walk of Fame runs along King Street from John Street and ends at the south end of Simcoe Street. Canadian actors, musicians, artists and athletes are honored on the Walk of Fame.
