Roy Thomson Hall

The Roy Thomson Hall is a concert hall in the city center of the Canadian city of Toronto . It is the seat of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir , which previously performed at Massey Hall .

The Roy Thomson Hall opened in the fall of 1982 and renovated in 2002. Its outer shape, a curved truncated cone, is clad with a structured glass facade. The building's architects were Arthur Erickson and Mather & Haldenby. The construction cost was 17.7 million Canadian dollars . Named after Roy Thomson , a Canadian newspaper and media entrepreneur, the hall has 3540 seats.

The hall acts each year for gala performances as part of the Toronto International Film Festival , of which it is one of the main venues.
