Kingkitsarat (also written King Kitsarath or Kingkitsalat , full throne name Somdet Brhat Chao Brhat Kinkidsaraja Sri Sadhana Kanayudha ; * in the 17th century in Luang Phrabang ; † 1713 there ) was the first king of the Kingdom of Luang Phrabang between 1706/1707 until his death .

Kingkitsarat was the eldest son of Prince ( Chao Raja ) Yudha (Prince Indra Brahma) and his wife, Princess Chandra Kumari. He was trained in the palace and fled with his mother in 1700 to Mueang Phong in Sipsong Panna . At the head of an army he returned to Luang Phrabang in 1705 and drove out the viceroy ( Maha Uparat ) of Sai Setthathirat II , who himself resided in Vientiane . Kingkitsarat took over the northern provinces, declared Luang Phrabang to be his capital and was proclaimed king, when he was crowned in 1706 under the name Somdet Brhat Chao Brhat Kinkisaraja Sri Sadhana Kanayudha .

Since it was not possible for Kingkitsarat to conquer the whole of Lan Xang , he accepted the unification proposal of the King of Siam , Phrachao Suea (r. 1703 to 1709), which provided for the division of the empire into the kingdoms of Luang Phrabang and Vientiane .

Kingkitsarat died in Luang Phrabang in 1713, leaving behind a son and two daughters.

  1. Prince ( Chao Fa ) Akkaraja (Akkarath)
  1. Princess ( Chao Fa Nying ) Dhanasvuni (Taen So)
  2. Princess ( Chao Fa Nying ) Dhanakama (Taen Kham)
