Edward "Kingsize" Taylor (born November 12, 1939 in Liverpool ) is a British rock musician.

biography

Taylor had his musical roots in rock 'n' roll and folk music. As a singer and guitarist, he also devoted himself to the traditional skiffle at times . Taylor was nicknamed "King Size" because of his height. From 1957 he was a member of the James Boys, a skiffle group in Liverpool. From the end of 1957 he also acted in a rock 'n' roll band, which appeared from 1960 under the band name "King Size Taylor And The Dominoes".

With a repertoire of rock 'n' roll, R&B, blues and country & western, King Size Taylor And The Dominoes made their first guest appearance in Germany at the Star Club in Hamburg in the summer of 1962 . From mid-1963, saxophonist Howie Casey joined the Dominoes. He was a veteran of Hamburg's live scene and had already performed in the Kaiserkeller in 1960 with Derry And The Seniors . The formation now consisted of six musicians (two saxophones, two guitars, bass and drums) and began recording records in Hamburg.

In the summer of 1964 there was a dispute within the band, as a result of which the entire Dominoes said goodbye to their band leader and namesake. Ted Taylor went back to Liverpool and worked again in his learned profession as a butcher. In 1966, Decca released Somebody's Always Trying / Look For My Baby, a king-size Taylor solo single in England , which, like the single Let Me Love You / Thinkin ' released by Polydor in 1967, did not become a sales success. Thereupon Taylor, who could look back on 542 live appearances on the stage of the Hamburg Star Club, withdrew completely from the show business.

Taylor has lived in Hamburg again since 2006 and performs here regularly as a singer and guitarist. He stood next to Tony Sheridan , Chris Farlowe , Beryl Marsden , Karl Terry and others on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th Star Club anniversary in April 2012 on the show stage of the Fliegende Bauten Hamburg .
