Bear Family Records

Bear Family Records is a re-release independent label ( LC 05197 ) for country music , German hits , rockabilly , rock 'n' roll , rhythm and blues , blues , soul , jazz and new German wave . It made a name for itself primarily through extensively researched and designed CDs and boxes by forgotten and lesser-known artists from these areas. The label is based on an old farm in Holste -Oldendorf, Lower Saxony, near Bremen.

The label was founded in 1975 by Richard Weize . The first release, Goin 'Back To Dixie, was dedicated to country musician Bill Clifton .

In the meantime, the label is internationally recognized as one of the most important in the field of re-releases and new releases of rarities and its releases have been nominated several times for a Grammy in the categories Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album and have been awarded the German Record Critics' Prize.

The box sets are provided with detailed leaflets and discographies and are dedicated to a wide variety of topics. Beyond Recall contains 256 tracks that were recorded by Jewish musicians in National Socialist Berlin and Next Stop Vietnam 13 CDs with songs about the Vietnam War, and another contains 44 CDs of 1,244 recordings by black musicians in Europe before 1927.

The first edition is usually 1000 pieces and goes up to 3000.

In 2015, Weize handed over the management of the label to two close employees, Detlev Hoegen and Michael "Ohlly" Ohlhoff .

Meanwhile, the label also has some current artists, such as Rumble on the Beach , Sandy and the Wild Wombats , Lou Cifer and the Hellions or Eddy and the Backfires from the rock 'n' roll scene under contract.
