Kinima Den Plirono ( Greek Κίνημα Δεν πληρώνω , German: movement “I am not paying ) is a citizens' initiative that arose in Greece as a reaction to the economic development during the Greek economic and financial crisis . Emergence

The "Den Plirono" movement came into being in 2008 as a reaction to the compulsory toll on the outdated and dangerous Motorway 8 Corinth - Patras . On the 1000 kilometers of motorways in Greece, which are operated by seven licensed private companies, a user charge is levied at 67 toll stations. In 2011 the income amounted to approx. 550 million euros. On many routes, such as between the Peloponnese and the mainland, only the toll road can be used, which is particularly a financial burden for commuters . It is felt to be inappropriate that the toll is also levied for obsolete, undeveloped routes regardless of their condition, as it serves to pre-finance the expansion measures.

The movement called for a refusal to pay the toll on the grounds that it was illegal and unfair. Its members raised the barriers at the toll stations and drove through without paying. Again and again toll stations were manned and motorists waved through.

Persistent increases in tolls that followed at toll stations across the country spread the movement to other parts of Greece. The initiators emphasized the irrationality of the toll collection and organized the protest all over Greece.

Further actions

The "Den Plirono" movement met with approval from many Greeks. After an opinion poll, the majority approved their actions. She soon began to expand her actions to other related areas such as opening closed beaches and refusing to pay on public transport. In the Athens subway, the ticket machines were covered with plastic bags so that commuters could not pay; Vending machines for buses and trams were taped up or completely dismantled. Doctors have also joined the movement and do not charge patients the practice fee of 5 euros.

Initially, there was no effective legal remedy for non-payment. The government feared that the non-payers would bring the country into disrepute and the state for indispensable income from the transport system. New criminal law provisions were introduced against fare dodging and toll refusal, inspectors were used in public transport and the police cracked down on them.

The movement gained new impetus after the Papandreou government passed a series of special taxes between June and September 2011 . The movement's slogans are: "Total disobedience!" And "We do not pay for their crisis!"

Formation of the party

"Den Plirono" ran for parliamentary elections on May 6, 2012 . The movement calls for the cancellation of all debts, nationalization of banks, protection of workers' rights, decent pensions and social benefits, the abolition of all tolls and compulsory charges and VAT on goods for basic needs, the mineral oil tax and vehicle tax, a fair tax system, the smashing of cartels and usurers , a free public health and education system, free electricity for sensitive social groups, free use of public transport, free shelter and food for the needy, a “justice according to the sense of justice”.

In the election in May 2012, however, the movement received only 0.88% of the vote, in the new election in June 2012 0.39%.
