Kinnah Phiri (born October 30, 1954 in Blantyre ) is a former Malawian football player and current coach . From 2008 to 2013 he coached the Malawian national team .

Career

In the club

Born in Blantyre , Kinnah began playing football for local team Big Bullets FC in 1973 . In 1982 he was offered a contract by Sharjah FC from the United Arab Emirates . However, he moved to Swaziland , where he played for Manzini Wanderers FC for two years before ending his playing career.

In the national team

Phiri was a national player for his country in the 1970s and early 1980s. In the late 1970s, he won the CECAFA Cup twice with the Malawian national soccer team . He scored 71 goals in 115 games.

As a trainer

Phiri only started working as a trainer 20 years after he ended his active career. From 2004 to 2005 the club that was once active as a player coached Big Bullets FC . He also coached the Malawian U-23 national team. After Phiri had already worked as an assistant coach for the senior national team, he got the post of head coach in 2009. He held this post until 2013. He was employed three times at the South African club Free State Stars , most recently he coached the Mochudi Center Chiefs and Jwaneng Galaxy FC .
