Cinema in a box
The Kino im Kasten , or KiK for short, is a university cinema in Dresden and is located in the lecture hall building at August-Bebel-Str. 20 . Since it was founded in the spring of 1993, the company has been run exclusively by students from the Technical University of Dresden and the Dresden University of Technology and Economics . The cinema owes its name to the box-shaped architecture of the lecture hall.
The tasks of the participating students also include film planning . The films are shown on two "MEO 4" 35 mm projectors in cross-fade mode.
The selection of films is mainly based on the personal preferences of the current colleagues, but also has a scientific background. Sometimes seminars are accompanied or lectures on the films are organized.
On January 13, 2015, the KiK celebrated its 22nd birthday with the latest Dresden student club film.
history
The lecture hall building was once part of the NVA military academy " Friedrich Engels " in Dresden. Lecture hall 3 with its 348 seats was equipped with a slide projector from Pentacon and two Meopta Meopton IV 35 mm projectors from Czechoslovakia . Mainly military and political educational films were shown. After the fall of the Wall, the building was taken over by the Technical University of Dresden. Students of the later founded Faculty of Education set up the non-commercial art house cinema. In January 1993 the official game operation began with the film Game me the song of death .
At the beginning of the 2012 summer semester, extensive renovation work began in the August-Bebel-Straße building complex. Since regular cinema operation was not possible during this time, the cinema in the box is holding special events at different locations at irregular intervals during construction work.
On May 16, 2014, the cinema in the box celebrated its reopening with the screening of the film Spur der Steine , including new sound technology and a new screen.
Directions
The KiK can be reached via the Strehlener Platz stop on tram line 11 or bus line 66. Or via the Wasaplatz stop by tram lines 9 and 13 or by bus lines 61, 63, 75 and 85.
Parking is available along the street.
