Kira Kosnick

Kira Kosnick (born August 29, 1966 ) is a German sociologist.

Life

She earned an MA in Sociology (1991) from the New School for Social Research and a PhD there in 2003 . In 2001 she was a Marie Curie Research Fellow (European Commission), Sussex Center for Migration Research, University of Sussex . From 2002 to 2003 she was a research assistant in World Heritage Studies (International Postgraduate Program), Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg . From 2003 to 2004 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southampton as a member of the 5th EU framework program project "Changing City Spaces: New Challenges to Cultural Policy in Europe". From 2004 to 2006 she was a lecturer in cultural analysis, Institute for Cultural Analysis, School of Arts, Communication and Culture, Nottingham Trent University . From 2006 to 2010 she was Junior Professor of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at the Institute for Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at Goethe University . In 2013/2014 she taught as Hannah-Arendt DAAD Visiting Professor for German and European Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto . She is professor for sociology with a focus on culture and migration at the Institute for Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, in Frankfurt am Main .

Her main research interests are migrant media production in transnational spaces, new forms of urban sociality, European cultural policy, neoliberalism and changes in the working society, cultural theories.
