Kirby Dick (born August 23, 1952 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American film director , producer and screenwriter .

Life

Dick is studying at NSCAD University in Canada , the California Institute of the Arts and AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles . After completing his studies, he produced and directed various film documentaries. His first documentary was Private Practices: The Story of a Sex Surrogate in 1986 . After various projects, he achieved international success with the film SICK: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, super masochist . In the following years he shot and produced other documentaries such as Chain Camera , Derrida , Showgirls: Glitz & Angst , The End and Twist of Faith .
