Jan Jacobsz Bal , called Huydecoper (* 1541 in Amsterdam ; † April 26, 1624 ) is the ancestor of the aristocratic Huydecoper van Maarsseveen family .

biography

He was born the son of Jacob Andriesz Bal (* 1510) and the power elector Geurtsdr van Beuningen . Jan Jacob Bal had taken the name of his maternal grandmother. His son Jan Andriesz Bal was Jan Jacob's father. Jan Jacobs Bal married Lijsbeth Gerritsdr van Gemen (1566–1652). This marriage was the origin of the important regent Joan Huydecoper (I) van Maarsseveen .

In 1566, the Protestant-minded community of wholesale merchants around Jan Jacobsz Bal, Jacobsz Reael , Dirk Jansz Graeff , Adriaan Pauw and Cornelis Hooft had taken over the social leadership within the city of Amsterdam in order to hold it in a political sense after the Alteratie in 1578. Jan Jacobsz Bal was in the Amsterdam city government until the year he died , was Vroedschap , Schepen and councilor . In 1580 he was appointed colonel in the civil guard. Other offices were that of a " Heemraads " from Nieuwer-Amstel and the "Bewindhebberschaft" over the Magellaense compagnie . In 1602 he became a shareholder in the Dutch East India Company with 12,000 guilders . He had a fortune of 170,000 guilders. Like his father, Jan Jacobsz Bal bought large estates on the Vecht . In 1608 he also bought the De Gouden Hoeff country house , which his son had expanded into the Goudestein country house in 1628 . From 1604 to 1624 it was also owned by the Cromwijck country house .
