Dennin Church

The Dennin Church is a 15th century church building in the Dennin district of the Spantekow municipality in Western Pomerania .

The late Gothic, brick-roofed brick hall with a three-sided east end, buttresses and a glazed base profile was probably built in the 15th century. In the 16th century, the sloping, boarded-up west tower with its high pointed helmet was added and, according to studies, it was around 80 years older than the comparable tower (first mentioned in 1667) of the church in Japenzin. The church building was reshaped and plastered in baroque style. The tower was renovated in the 1990s and was previously covered with wooden shingles.

The flat-roofed interior contains a pulpit altar from the mid-18th century with rich Rococo ornaments; the cheeks are carved with acanthus and volutes, and crowned by a pelican who soaks his young with his heart's blood. The side sheds and the west gallery with openwork carving, and probably also the stalls, date from the same time as the altar. A two-manual organ harmonium on the gallery fell victim to the woodworm in the 1960s. For many years there was a small harmonium in the community room, which was built in the churchyard area under Pastor Hirsch / Iven (until 1964) and which has a mortuary.

The bell of the church consisted of two bells , one from the 15th century, which was lost in the turmoil of World War I. The other was cast by Michael Begun from Friedland in 1717 and is still in use today.

A dry stone wall surrounds the churchyard. The brick portal with segment arch opening dates from the 15th century. Originally Japenzin was the main parish church, later Iven. After the last pastor left Iven, Dennin and Japenzin came with Rehberg to the parish with the main parish church of Spantekow. The Protestant parish has been part of the Pasewalk provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Greifswald parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .
