The Church of the Faith is an Evangelical Reformed church in Affoltern , a district of the city of Zurich, and was built according to plans by Esther and Rudolf Guyer . It is on Riedenhaldenstrasse at the intersection of Wehntalerstrasse and Binzmühlestrasse .

history

When Affoltern developed from a village into a district of the city of Zurich in the 20th century, the infrastructure also had to be adapted. The medieval church Unterdorf , which stands on the edge of the historical district of the same name, was no longer in the center of Affoltern due to the many new buildings. Therefore, in 1938, on the site of today's church Glaubten, a parish hall with a hall was built, in which services could also be celebrated. In 1965 a public project competition for a new church in Affoltern was advertised and in the years 1971–1972 today's church Glaubten was built according to plans by the architects Esther and Rudolf Guyer .

Building description

Entrance to the courtyard
Church Believed, Courtyard

The square tower of the church in Glaubten rises up on the busy Wehntalerstrasse and points to the location of the church. The historic-looking dial of the tower contrasts with the modern cubic design of the tower and the building ensemble. In order to shield the church and the parish hall from the noise of the streets, the architects Esther and Rudolf Guyer designed the church with the other parts of the building as a closed ensemble, which is grouped around a walled church square. Through an archway under the church tower, the visitor arrives at the shielded inner courtyard, from which one can get into the interior of the church through two portals. The cubic church building has an almost square floor plan. The chairs are grouped in a semicircle around the slightly raised chancel. Daylight is guided into the interior of the church by means of two light paths. The stepped surrounding walls and the suspended ceiling additionally support the effect of the lighting. The works of art on the building were created by Moik Schiele and Bernard Schoderet. The parish hall from 1938 including the large hall was cleverly integrated into the modern building ensemble.

organ

In 1972 the company Orgelbau Mühleisen & Cie , Strasbourg, built the organ of the church Glaubten. The instrument originally had 36 stops on 3 manuals and pedal, the action was electric. In 1995 a revision was carried out by Norbert Stengele, Horgen. Here the organ received the Voix céleste register. In 2005 Orgelbau Kuhn , Männedorf, carried out an overhaul and expanded the organ to 43 registers. During the general overhaul in 2013 by Thomas Wälti, Gümligen, the organ was given a new console with light barriers instead of the electrical contacts.
