Church in Oberkreuschlach

The Roman Catholic Church in Oberkreuschlach in the town of Gmünd in Carinthia is dedicated to St. Bartholomew . It is a branch church of the parish church Gmünd in Carinthia .

history

The church, built in 1518, was damaged by an earthquake in 1690 and restored in 1691.

Building

The simple, late Gothic building is supported on the chancel and nave by double-stepped buttresses . A slender church tower stands north of the nave. The Gothic tower with round arched double acoustic windows was renovated in the baroque style on the gables and pointed helmet in the roof area . On the outer walls there are badly preserved frescos, including a St. Christopher . The pointed arched, delicately profiled west portal is protected by a baroque canopy on two pillars. The vault of the choir with a 5/8 end and the choir windows were renewed after the earthquake in 1690. The pointed arch triumphal arch , the ribbed vault of the two-bay nave, the recessed pillars with round wall templates and the two pointed arch windows on the south side date from this period, the late Gothic . The keystones in the nave have three- and four-pass shapes. In the north wall of the eastern nave yoke, a round arched door leads to the sacristy on the tower ground floor. Above it is a stair access to the tower. The fresco fragment next to the sacristy door, created around 1518, shows the bishops Rupert and Virgil .

Furnishing

The high altar from the end of the 17th century is a columnar pedicure altar with rich acanthus tendrils . On the middle picture of the altar St. Bartholomäus and scenes from his life are depicted, on the upper picture the Holy Trinity . Statues of the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus stand above the sacrificial portals . The side altars are made in the same way. The left altar panel shows Mary of Victory , the right one shows St. Nepomuk . On the north wall of the choir there is an altarpiece with an auxiliary image of the Virgin .

The pulpit from the last quarter of the 17th century shows the painted representation of the four evangelists on the parapet of the pulpit. A hand with a crucifix is attached to the transition from the pulpit to the banister. On the cover is the figure of an angel blowing a trumpet. On the underside, a plastic dove of the Holy Spirit hovers in front of a halo.

The Lodron coat of arms can be seen on the choir lattice from 1721. The following console figures from the 18th century are in the church: Saints Peter and Paul in the choir and Saints John Nepomuk and Andrew in the nave.
