Olaf Mertelsmann

Olaf Mertelsmann (born January 15, 1969 ) is a German historian who teaches modern history at the University of Tartu (German: Dorpat ).

Life

Mertelsmann attended the Dietrich Bonhoeffer -Gymnasium in Quickborn near Hamburg from 1979 to 1988 and then studied history, German, Finno-Ugric studies and pedagogy at the University of Hamburg from 1990 to 1995 and graduated with the first state examination for teaching in history and German. He received his PhD in Modern History from the same university. From 1996 to 1998 he was an assistant at the University of Tartu. From 1998 to 2002 he was the first professor at the State Pedagogical University Novosibirsk in Siberia Novosibirsk and later as part of the DAAD -Austauschprogramms lecturer at the Novosibirsk State University . In 2003 he returned to his alma mater as a private lecturer .

Mertelsmann has been working at the University of Tartu since 2003, specializing in Soviet history and modern history.
