The Oelsa Church

The Oelsa Church is a hall church built in the neo-baroque style and is located in the middle of Oelsa in the Saxon district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains . It belongs to the parish of Kreischa-Seifersdorf in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

history

With the growth of the population of Groß- and Kleinölßa due to the flourishing industry, both localities were merged on April 1, 1926 to form the locality of Oelsa. After the parish of Oelsa was founded on January 1, 1913 and the towns separated from the Rabenau and Seifersdorf churches , the call for a church of their own was loud.

The foundation stone for the church building took place on July 31, 1927. It was built according to plans by the Dresden architect Richard Merz; the inauguration took place by the regional bishop Ludwig Ihmels on the 1st of Advent, December 2nd, 1928 with the solemn accompaniment of the Dippoldiswalder trombone choir. The church received two stained glass windows with depictions of the evangelists Lukas and Markus from the Dresden manufactory Josef Goller .

View to the altar

The altar is made of sandstone; Since the inauguration in 1928, a large crucifix has stood on it between two candlesticks. A stucco frame was installed in the wall behind for the altarpiece, which was removed during the renovation in 1978. The resurrection painting by the Dresden artist Eberhard von der Erde has been hanging in its place since the 1st of Advent 2013.

View of the organ

A sandstone staircase leads from the adjoining room to the pulpit , which is simply kept without pictures .

In 1978 a coffered ceiling was installed and the interior redesigned in color.

The bell is located in the square west tower with an eight-sided bell storey. It consists of three steel bells cast after 1946. In 1921 three newly cast bells were consecrated for the free-standing bell tower and the school built at the cemetery; It is not known whether these bells were adopted in the church.

The organ was made by the Jehmlich brothers from Dresden. It was renovated in 1941, 1943 and 1985.

The font is made of sandstone and the lectern is made of wood.

Above the large entrance there is the inscription: "Come to me, all of you who are troublesome and burdened, I will refresh you" ( Mt 11:28  LUT ). Another saying that existed in the church hall at the choir arch until the renovation in 1978 was: "I live and you should also live" ( Joh 14,19  LUT )

The exterior of the church is adorned with buttresses and a hipped roof. Aligned to the entrance portal of the church, the access built in 1927/28 with a stone bridge, retaining walls, axial staircase with two lower flights of stairs and a platform with a terrace made of sandstone goes from the main street.
