The church Pongsu ( Kor. 봉수 교회 ) or Bongsu is a Protestant sacred building in North Korea's capital Pyongyang in the Mangyŏngdae-guyŏk district . The building was handed over to its intended purpose in September 1988 and has space for 700 worshipers. The entire area is around 10,000 m². In 2008 the church u. a. redeveloped with help from members of the Presbyterian Church of South Korea . The parishioners can get involved in a choir as well as in a missionary society or in the church assembly and the church council . Services sometimes take place several times a week.
To what extent there is active church life cannot be said for sure; North Korea's constitution guarantees religious freedom , but Christians in particular are persecuted . More on this in the article: Religion in North Korea .
