The Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter in Katschtal is a parish church in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt in the village of St. Peter in the market town of Rennweg am Katschberg . The church with cemetery and cemetery wall are under monument protection.

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1351. It is believed to have originated from a Carolingian baptistery. After a fire in 1642, most of the current building was erected.

Building

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The block-like, closed building is uniformly roofed. The south tower with pointed helmet is 35 m high. The square, three-aisled western part of the nave with a central pillar and main portal on the south side is late Gothic. The rectangular eastern part of the nave and the narrower choir date from the 17th century.

Facility

The baroque high altar with two-storey column architecture and sacrificial doors was built around 1700. In the shrine is the figure of the apostle Peter . Assistant figures are on the left of St. Squidward, on the right St. Barbara . The painting on the upper floor shows the conversion of the Apostle Paul . It is flanked on the left by the Archangel Michael, on the right by a guardian angel with a child. The tondo of the essay shows an image of St. James. On the door of the sacrificial passage are St. Rupert, on the right St. Virgil depicted.

The sheet of the baroque left side altar from 1706 shows the assumption of Mary into heaven . A Maria immaculata is depicted on the medallion picture on the upper floor . On the altar table is a baroque figure of a Queen of Mary with child.

The sheet of the similarly designed right side altar shows the apostle Andrew. In the tondo above is St. To see Christophorus.

The baroque pulpit from 1707 can be climbed from the tower. Pictures of the evangelists can be seen on the basket. On the cover is a trumpeting angel with the inscription: “Keep the commandments of the Lord your God”.

Further furnishings include a late Gothic baptismal font , several console figures, a crucifix framed with a rose heart and a painting of the Stations of the Cross.

organ

The baroque design of the organ case took place in 2004 as part of a church renovation.
