The church, built between 1140 and 1167 under the Grand Duke of Kievan Rus Vsevolod II , was never destroyed in the entire period of its existence and thus shows a combination of different architectural styles, such as the Byzantine and Ukrainian Baroque styles . The church, named after the church fathers Kyrill and Athanasius of Alexandria , has a base area of 31 m × 18.4 m, a height of 28 m and belonged to a monastery complex on Kyrill-Höhe in Kiev. On August 24, 1963, the church was declared a Monument of National Importance by decree of the USSR Council of Ministers and is now part of the National Museum of St. Sophia Cathedral . The three-story bell tower of the church, built in 1760 by the architect Ivan Hryhorowytsch-Barskyj , was demolished in 1937. The church since 2009, along with the Church of St. Andrew in the so-called Tentative List of UNESCO entered as nominated World Heritage Site.
