The wooden church was built in 1842 by the architect Hans Klipe with an octagonal floor plan. It is crowned with a roof turret and was Geiranger's third church building. A first church existed as early as 1450 and was demolished in 1742 and replaced by a new building in 1744, which burned down in 1841. The decorations on the church were made by the woodcarver Einar Flydahl . The church clock was made in 1899. The altarpiece was created by Harald Brun and dates from 1902. In 1906 the church received an organ , which was replaced by a new one in 1964. The upcoming celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the church in 1942 were postponed due to the Second World War and were not celebrated until 1946.

The church has 168 seats.
