The Church Center Langwasser is an ecumenical center in Nuremberg - Langwasser . The building is the only ecumenical center in the diocese of Eichstätt . The two churches of the original building on the former March field of the Nazi party rally grounds are named after the concentration camp prisoners and pastors Maximilian Kolbe and Martin Niemöller ( Martin-Niemöller-Kirche ). The church of the Free Christian Community Langwasser is nameless.
Building history
The building was erected in 1985/86 according to plans by Eberhard Schunck and Dieter Ullrich and inaugurated on December 7, 1986 by District Dean Hermann von Loewenich (Evangelical Lutheran) and Bishop Karl Braun (Roman Catholic) in the Nuremberg district of Langwasser. In May, the center was awarded the city of Nuremberg's first architecture prize (1987), a prize that had only been awarded four times until 2015.
In May 1991 the evangelical day care center "Martin-Niemöller" planned by the same architect couple was opened in the center. In 1998 an extension to the Catholic rectory followed. In 1999, the directly adjacent car park was converted into a church and parish hall of the Free Christian Community Langwasser and opened. In 2012 the parish halls with side rooms of the Martin-Niemöller-Church were converted into a day nursery, the basement rooms were given an outside entrance.
