The Kirkjufellsfoss is a picturesque waterfall in the west of Iceland .
It is located 1.5 km south of the eponymous mountain and 2.5 km west of Grundarfjörður on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula . The Kirkjufellsá river falls in two stages by a total of 16 meters. Shortly afterwards it flows into a bay of Grundarfjörður . Since 1986 the bay has been almost closed off by a dam over which the Snæfellsnesvegur
runs. The old bridge from 1955 still stands above the waterfall.
