The Kirov Dam ( Kyrgyz Киров суу сактагычы ) dams the Talas River in the Talas area in northern Kyrgyzstan .
It was made in a narrow point in which the river breaks through a mountain range and reaches the Kazakh steppe landscape. The lock was completed in 1976. The fall height is 83 m. The reservoir has a length of 22 km and a maximum width of 4 km. Its water surface is a maximum of 26.5 km². The storage volume is 550 million m³. The dam mainly serves as a water reservoir for the irrigation of the agricultural areas located downstream. The place Kyzyladyr lies on the south bank of the reservoir . The town of Talas is east and upstream on the river, while Pokrovka and Kazakhstan's Taras are downstream and west of the dam.
