The Kirwan Inlet is a 19-km wide and 11 km long bay on the southeast coast of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . The bay is occupied by the ice masses of George VI Sound , which merge seamlessly into those on the island.
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a rough mapping in 1949. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the bay in 1955 after Archibald Laurence Patrick Kirwan (1907–1999), President and Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society from 1945 to 1975.
