Traditionally used putty knife

A putty knife is a tool that is traditionally used in the glazing, painting and carpentry trades. Putty knives are used when inserting glass panes into window and door frames to firmly press putty into the fold of a frame in which a pane of glass is to be inserted. After inserting the pane onto the putty layer in the frame rebate, a second layer of putty can be applied to the edges of the pane in the rebate with a putty knife, pressed down and smoothed out. Putty knives are also used to repair and renew putty joints and to fill out cracks and damaged areas in wooden components. Putty knives are available in various designs with different blade shapes, continuous and discontinuous in the handle, between about 20 to 50 millimeters wide and about 80 to 110 millimeters long.
