The house at Kitzinger Strasse 2

The house at Kitzinger Straße 2 (also the guard house at Unteren Tor ) is a listed building on the edge of the old town of Mainbernheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen.

history

The history of the house in front of the Lower Gate is closely linked to the fortifications of the city of Mainbernheim. For example, so-called guard houses were built in the 18th century in order to be able to collect the customs that had to be paid to enter the city. The guard house at the lower gate was completed in 1787, as indicated by an inscription. Together with the house at Kitzinger Strasse 2, another, similar building was built on Nürnberger Strasse. Today the house is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments .

description

The house presents itself as a single-storey half-hipped house with a mansard roof . The gable has half-timbering , which was built in the forms of the late 18th century with a simple grid framework . The door and window frames are kept without ears and only have a simple fold. Inside, the rooms were originally divided into a cross. The open alcove next to the kitchen, which can also be found at the gardeners' houses in Bamberg , is particularly significant .
