Sound design is a term coined by Luigi Nono and Karlheinz Stockhausen and describes the sound engineering player at concerts. You can usually see the sound director sitting at the mixer in the hall with a score . It is essential that this technology is operated by a musically competent specialist who, in addition to technical planning and mixing, also contributes to the realization with precise knowledge of the score and creative ideas. He designs composition-specific sound systems, creates and programs live electronics and takes on the control and programming of the required processes. The sound mixer is an instrument for the sound director, just as the piano is for the pianist or the clarinet is for the clarinetist. And for this very reason it is perfectly normal for him to read a score while pushing the controls on the mixer.
The activity of sound director combines the professions of sound engineer , sound engineer , musician and accordingly requires diverse training.
