Zoro Babel

Zoro Babel (born September 15, 1967 in Peterskirchen , Upper Bavaria as Zoro Fuchs ) is a German musician (drums, percussion, synthesizer, sampling), sound artist, and theater and film composer .

Live and act

Zoro Babel, the son of Limpe Fuchs and Paul Fuchs , played in his parents' formation, Anima Musica , from 1975 to 1983 . In 1983/84 he attended the Summer Sessions of the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock , New York . He then worked with Achim Freyer and Dieter Schnebel and for several years in the band of Markus and Simon Stockhausen . In 1988 he also worked on Markus Stockhausen's ECM production Cosi Lontano… Quasi Dentro with Fabrizio Ottaviucci and Gary Peacock . In the same year he founded the group Kairos. At the end of the 1980s he wrote his first works for theater before he co-founded the group Focus Pocus with Gabriele Mirabassi and Werner Puntigam in 1990 , with which he recorded two albums. In the field of improvisational music and jazz, he was involved in five recording sessions between 1981 and 1997, according to Tom Lord .

In the following years Babel worked as a producer of film scores for film projects and plays by Monika Wiebmer , Lisi Frischengruber , Achim Freyer and Alexeij Sagerer ; he also worked as an assistant to Josef Anton Riedl . In 1995 he took part in the “ Musica Viva ” festival in Munich for the first time and performed his own composition “Senso Unico”. In collaboration with Michael Lentz , compositions were created from music and language. Babel also appeared at various festivals for new music such as the Donaueschinger Musiktage ( töne aus sichten ) and at sound art festivals. Since 1996 he has been working with metal lockers, which he converted into musical instruments. In 2002 he and Edgar Guggeis and Niki Bell received a composition commission from the Fraunhofer Society for Music Lockers and Robots. Furthermore, he took over the sound direction as well as the audiovisual conception for various contemporary music projects and received the Music Prize of the City of Munich.
