Michael Lentz (born May 15, 1964 in Düren ) is a German writer , sound poet , literary scholar and musician .

Life

Michael Lentz, son of Düren's senior city director Hubert Lentz , attended the Stiftisches Gymnasium Düren . After graduating from high school, he studied German , history and philosophy in Aachen , Munich and Siegen and received his doctorate in 1999 with a two-volume dissertation on sound poetry / music after 1945. A critical and documentary inventory . His literary debut, the poetry and prose volume For Awareness , appeared on September 29, 1985, on the occasion of a public reading in the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum in Düren. In 1998 he won the German Poetry Slam Championship. Lentz took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1998 and 2001 ; In 2001 he received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for his text Muttersterben . Since 2004 he has been President of the Free Academy of the Arts in Leipzig ; In 2005 he received the Prize of the Literature Houses . In May 2006 he was appointed professor to the chair for literary writing at the German Literature Institute Leipzig ( Leipzig University ), which he still holds today. Lentz was co-editor of the literary magazine Neue Rundschau . He became known to the general public primarily through his novel Pazifik Exil , which was on the longlist for the 2007 German Book Prize . Since 2014 he has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt.

Michael Lentz lives in Berlin and Leipzig.
