Wetterau public observatory
The Volkssternwarte Wetterau is an observatory supervised by an amateur astronomical association . It is located on the Johannisberg ( 264.84 m above sea level ) on the western outskirts of Bad Nauheim in Central Hesse . The name refers to the surrounding Wetterau landscape . The observatory's planetary hiking trail was completed on April 24, 2010 and extends from Goldsteinpark to here.
history
The Volkssternwarte was founded in the 1970s by the members of the “Verein der Volkssternwarte Wetterau e. V. ” set up in a neo-Gothic tower. In the following years the equipment was modernized and a GRP observation dome was built on the top of the tower.
The Wetterau public observatory offers regular public observations of the sky and astronomical lectures.
Instruments
A computer-controlled Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with a 35 cm aperture and a refractor with an 18 cm aperture are used for observation .
