Class mirror

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A class table , often also referred to as a grade table or censorship table , provides statistical information about the distribution of results achieved in school performance assessments within a learning group .

A distinction is to be made between the performance overview and the seating plan (also: seating arrangement ) with information about permanently allocated seats within a school class. This is also sometimes referred to regionally as a class index.

shape

A class overview is generally structured in tabular form. In the primary and lower secondary levels in Germany, analogous to the grades 1–6 assigned there, the number of class work or tests that have achieved this grade is given. In the upper secondary level , the exams that were evaluated with the respective number of points are added up in the course overview when evaluating the points system . In addition, further information on the number of points required for obtaining the class as well as a class average can be added to the class table.

discussion

The specification of class tables when returning class work or tests is regularly discussed by everyone involved in the school.

Critics say, for example, that it could be a violation of data protection. In addition, the announcement that there were very good or very bad grades could lead to an exclusion of the students concerned.

In contrast, advocates see the purely statistical information on the distribution of grades as sufficient anonymization and thus no data protection breach. Pupils and their parents named it advantageous that they can see the spread of individual grades in the class and can classify their own performance in the context of the class.

Situation in Germany

The regulation as to whether a censorship table is communicated when class work is returned depends on the respective federal state . In some federal states this information is mandatory (e.g. Hessen ), in other federal states it is forbidden. In other federal states there are no binding official regulations; there this is left to the educational freedom or educational responsibility of the respective teaching teacher. Depending on the federal state, schools can sometimes make binding agreements within the school. If there are no binding regulations through school laws, ordinances or decrees, pupils or parents have no right to information about the class table (decision of the Federal Administrative Court of July 3, 1978 (VII B 113.78)).

In some federal states, information on the grade point average is officially required in addition to or instead of a censorship table.

Bavaria

It is up to the respective teaching teacher whether the average and the class level are announced.

Berlin

The class table is published from grades 5 to 10, at grammar schools only up to grade 9. The class table for the upper secondary level (secondary level II) is not regulated.

Brandenburg

The class overview will be announced if this is decided by the parents' meeting.

Hesse

A class overview is announced with the return of a class test.

Lower Saxony

There is no uniform regulation.

North Rhine-Westphalia

The announcement of the class table is not regulated.

Rhineland-Palatinate

While the grades are published in schools from grade 5 onwards, class work in elementary school is not given a distribution of grades.

Saarland

Under 3.4.2 of the current decree it says: Forms and evaluations of all performance records as well as every written announcement of the evaluation of the participation within the meaning of number 3.2.1 are documented by the teacher for each student. Transcripts of grades are not disclosed.
