Klaus Brisch (born February 7, 1923 in Opole ; † February 9, 2001 in Berlin ) was a German Islamic archaeologist.

Brisch studied art and received his doctorate in 1955 on Kandinsky and non-representational painting at the University of Bonn . He then worked at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo from 1960 to 1966 , from where he also led excavations in Syria. He then succeeded Kurt Erdmann as director of the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin , which he headed until his retirement in 1988. With spectacular purchases, he brought the museum back to international renown, which had suffered greatly from the division of Berlin and the destruction caused by the war. In addition to Syria, Spain was the focus of his interest, where he also led excavations. Brisch was also a professor of Islamic art at the Free University of Berlin .

He died in Berlin in 2001 after a long and serious illness.
