Klaus Drichert (born February 12, 1938 in Dobbrikow , Jüterbog-Luckenwalde district ) was a successful motorboat racing driver in the GDR .

Career

After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Luckenwalde . In 1959 he started as an engine mechanic at VEB Automobilwerke Ludwigsfelde . After this VEB had in 1965 ceased production of the IWL racing engines, founded Driefert with the race boat drivers and engineers Manfred Blumenthal and Peter Rosenow and his colleagues Karl-Heinz Reichert and Kurt Leopold the Iltis racing collective . In their spare time they developed their own outboard racing engine for the 250 cm³ class, and later also for the 175 and 350 cm³ classes. Parts of Driefert's equipment are now in the Ludwigsfelde City and Technology Museum.

Sporting successes

Drichert started his racing career in 1965 with an IWL engine in the 175 cm³ class and celebrated his first victory in the third race. From 1968 he started with the self-constructed Iltis engine and achieved his greatest success with it. After nine GDR championship titles, he rose to the 250 cm³ and later to the 350 cm³ class, before ending his career in 1987 after 22 years of racing.
