Klaus Hammer (Germanist)

Klaus Hammer (born 5. July 1934 ) is a German Germanist and literary scholar . Until his retirement he taught as a professor for modern German literature at the Technical University of Dresden . Since then he has been visiting professor for German literature at the universities of Koszalin and Slupsk in Poland .

Live and act

In 1967, Klaus Hammer received his doctorate from the University of Halle on the subject: "The Drama Theory of Sturm und Drang". In 1984 the book "Worldview development and aesthetic conception of Friedrich Wolf from the beginnings to 1929" followed at the University of Jena .

In the GDR he was involved in viewing the holdings of the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in the historical holdings of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar and worked on the 1966 edition of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 12 volumes at Aufbau-Verlag , Berlin / Weimar.

He was co-editor of dramaturgical writings of the 19th century, of bibliographical compilations and author in various lexicons on German literature. Another focus of his research was the collection and publication of fairy tales with a focus on poet's fairy tales.

After the fall of the Wall , Hammer became involved in German-Polish cooperation in his field. On his 65th birthday, his students dedicated a volume to him as a festive gift with contributions to German literature in the former Prussia and the Baltic States. In 2011, employees of the Polytechnic University of Koszalin dedicated another commemorative publication to him with the topic: The Ariadne Thread in Tradition: Studies on German and Non-German Literature and Culture: Festschrift for Prof. Dr. habil. Klaus Hammer.
