Klaus Hubmann

Klaus Hubmann (* 1959 in Graz ) is an Austrian musicologist and bassoonist .

Life

Klaus Hubmann first studied the bassoon as a concert with Rudolf Frodl at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts. In 1983 he received his teaching qualification and passed his diploma with distinction. He also conducted repertoire studies with Dietmar Zeman in Graz and Vienna. From 1978 to 1984 he studied solo singing with Jane Pöltinger at the Graz University of Music. He completed a supplementary course in performance practice (Mag. Art. 1985) as well as a degree in musicology and German at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz (Mag. Phil. 1989). In 1991 he was with a thesis on the "Materials on the history of musical life in the Cistercian monastery of Rein and his parishes" to Dr. phil. PhD.

He received the 1st prize and the special prize of the Vienna Philharmonic in the Jugend musiziert competition as well as the advancement prize of the city of Graz (1981).

In 1987 he became a university assistant at the Graz Institute for Performance Practice. In 1992 he also became a concert advisor for the Styrian Tonkünstlerbund. He is an associate professor (since 2000) and head of the Institute 15 for Early Music and Performance Practice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (2000–2005, since 2010). Hubmann researches a. a. on performance practice as well as the music history of Styria and woodwind instruments. Technical articles appeared in the Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon , for example .

As a musician he belongs to several special ensembles for early music. a. the Vienna Academy Orchestra , the Concilium musicum Vienna , the Neue Hofkapelle Graz and the Harmonia antiqua. He is also a member of the Grazer Bläserquintett and the Ensemble for New Music "szene instrumental". He is also the founding director of the Ensemble Catkanei - Studio for Early Music Graz and Harmoniae suavitas as well as the vocal ensemble a più voci. Concert tours have taken him at home and abroad. He also participated in several recordings, CD and radio recordings.
