Klaus Roosen

Klaus Roosen (* 1944 in Heilbronn ) is a German neurosurgeon .

Roosen went to school in Heilbronn and received his training as a neurosurgeon with Wilhelm Grote at the Essen University Hospital. He was a professor in Gießen and from 1991 until his retirement in 2009 was full professor for neurosurgery at the University of Würzburg and director of the neurosurgical university clinic there.

He dealt in particular with acoustic neuromas and surgery of the spine and spinal cord (spinal and intraspinal surgery). Under his direction there was a newly established tumor laboratory that researched the growth of brain tumors and a department for experimental neurosurgery, where, among other things, the mechanisms of nerve regeneration after injuries were researched.

In 2006 Roosen received the Wilhelm Tönnis Medal . He was chairman of the German Society for Neurosurgery .
