Klaus Schulz (basketball player)

Klaus Schulz (born May 26, 1936 ) is a former German national basketball player .

career

Schulz played soccer at Alemannia Aachen and was in a coma for two days after a head injury.

In the 1961/62 season he played for the Spanish club Estudiantes Madrid . With the basketball players from Alemannia Aachen, Schulz became German champions in 1963 and 1964, and he also competed with the team in the European Cup.

He then moved to FC Bayern Munich , with whom he won the cup in 1968 and where he also served as player-coach in later years. In the 1980s Schulz became head of the basketball department at FC Bayern, and under his direction the Munich team rose to the basketball league in 1987 .

Professionally, Schulz worked as a lawyer and in this role defended his teammate John "Slim" Thornton, who was charged with murder.

National team

In 1957, 1961 and 1965 Schulz took part in the European Championship finals with the German national team.
