Klaus Sibold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Sibold (born December 8, 1945 in Bonndorf in the Black Forest ) is a German theoretical elementary particle physicist.

Sibold studied physics from 1967 at the University of Karlsruhe and the University of Durham with a diploma in Karlsruhe in 1971 and a doctorate in 1975 (Renormalization properties versus supersymmetry) with Julius Wess . In between he was at the JINR in Dubna. He was an assistant in Karlsruhe and at the Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics in Munich, where he was Senior Research Associate from 1985 to 1995. He completed his habilitation in 1980, was a Heisenberg fellow from 1980 to 1985 (at CERN , the University of Geneva with Olivier Piguet and at the MPI in Munich) and was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Leipzig from 1995 until his retirement in 2011 .

Among other things, he dealt with renormalization theory of supersymmetric field theories and wrote a monograph with Olivier Piguet on the renormalization of the simplest supersymmetric field theory (N = 1, in flat space-time). He wrote an introductory textbook on elementary particle physics.

In 1988 he was visiting professor at the Research Institute for Fundamental Physics (RIFP) in Kyoto and in 2000 at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

He is one of the organizers of the physics combo at the Central German universities of Halle, Leipzig and Jena.
