Klaus Völker (sports medicine specialist)

Klaus Völker (born August 4, 1948 ) is a German sports doctor and university professor .

Life

Völker studied at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) from April 1969 to March 1972 , followed by a degree in human medicine at the University of Cologne that lasted until 1979 . In 1980 he completed his doctoral thesis at the Institute for Circulatory Research and Sports Medicine at the DSHS (subject: "Behavior of free fatty acids during acute and chronic endurance exercise"). As early as 1972 he worked at the DSHS as a teacher at the institute for swimming, water, winter and martial arts, which he held until the spring of 1984 when he took up a position as a research assistant at the institute for circulatory research and sports medicine. There he worked on hemodynamic and metabolic sports-related research. He completed his habilitation in 1990.

From October 1991 to spring 1997 Völker worked at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the Technical University of Dortmund as a professor for sports medicine and in April 1997 changed to the position of director of the institute for sports medicine at the University Hospital Münster .

In 2003 Völker became Vice President of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention , he was also a founding member and longstanding board member of the German Association for Health Sports and Sports Therapy. In 2015 he was awarded the sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

His main research areas include sports therapy, health sports, the risk factor inactivity, training with lung patients, stress profiles and training control in trendy sports, water aerobics and aqua fitness, swimming with diabetics and high blood pressure patients.
