Piano Sonata No. 10 (Beethoven)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonata No. 10 in G major, Op. 14 No. 2 was written in 1798 and 1799 and is dedicated to Baroness Josefa von Braun. Tovey describes it as an "exquisite little work".

The G major sonata was written in the same year as the Pathétique , but it is of a completely different character. The lyrical and playful elements are reminiscent of the Rococo and are even more prominent than in the E major sonata published under the same opus number and written at the same time .

construction

The 1st set - Allegro, 2 / 4 - pensive begins with a graceful and clear- sixteenth motive . Two-part thirds bring the secondary theme .

The 2nd movement - Andante, Allabreve - is in C major, the subdominant of G major. Fine and transparent variations make it a little march with short-struck chords .

The 3rd set - Scherzo, Allegro Assai, 3 / 8 - is a mixture of Rondo and Scherzo , significantly Beethoven's only at the end of a Sonata.
