Adhesive Engineer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bonding engineer or European Adhesive Engineer (EAE) is the term for qualified engineers and natural scientists who have acquired expert knowledge in the field of bonding technology through a special training course .

The adhesive engineer represents the third and thus the highest level of the advanced training system in adhesive technology after the qualification as adhesive practitioner and adhesive specialist . The course for qualification and examination for adhesive engineers has been offered and carried out since 2001.

Field of activity

The aim of the further training is to qualify the adhesive engineer for the following tasks:

  • Technical decision maker in the development and manufacture of bonded products
  • Design review
  • Contract review
  • Planning and monitoring of bonding processes
  • Quality management for bonding processes
  • Instruction of executive personnel

The use in the company fulfills the requirements of the quality management standard EN ISO 9000 ff. For specially qualified personnel for the responsible supervision of processes, the results of which cannot be fully verified by non-destructive testing methods (“special processes”).

Further training to become an adhesive engineer

The scope of the advanced training and examination to become an adhesive engineer is defined by the harmonized guidelines DVS- EWF 3309 (for Germany) and EWF 517-01 (for Europe). Analogous to the advanced training in welding technology to become a welding engineer , the measure may only be offered and carried out by specially approved educational institutions.

The training duration is 332 teaching units of 50 minutes each, which is regularly organized in an eight-week full-time course, and is divided into theoretical training, practical exercises and an examination. The European guideline prescribes the following topics as the focus of further training. The number in brackets indicates the respective guide value for the number of teaching units.

The exam consists of a combination of written and oral individual exams. Upon successful completion, the graduate is awarded a DVS certificate and an EWF diploma.

Protection of the term "engineer"

Since the status of engineer in Germany is a protected term by the engineering laws of the federal states and accordingly may only be used by graduates of an engineering degree, only those who have successfully completed the advanced training are allowed to call themselves "adhesive engineers". Graduates of natural science courses such as chemists or physicists, to whom the further training is also aimed, are only permitted to use the designation European Adhesive Engineer (EAE), as the term "engineer" is not subject to any special protection.
