The clothes Kreisel GmbH is a subsidiary of the international company Vinted Limited , which is the world's largest marketplace for used clothes with about 20 million users. Kleiderkreisel GmbH also operates the Mamikreisel platform .

history

The parent company Vinted was founded in 2008 under the name Miju Projects by Justas Janauskas and Milda Mitkute in Lithuania . Kleiderkreisel itself has existed since 2009 and is the largest platform in the Vinted Group. Kleiderkreisel was initially only accessible with a web browser . A mobile app had been under development in the Vinted Group since 2010 . However, this ran slowly, which is why it was given to Lemon Labs in 2012. The app was published at the end of 2012. Between 2013 and 2015, Vinted received $ 60 million in investments from Accel Partners , Burda Principal Investments and Insight Venture Partners , among others . Aside from investments, Kleiderkreisel was not yet profitable. To change this, Kleiderkreisel introduced fees for sellers in 2014. Before that, Kleiderkreisel was free for users. However, the introduction of the fees sparked massive protests, which caused Kleiderkreisel to lower them. In return, the switching from advertising to clothing circles was increased.

Market position

In autumn 2018, Kleiderkreisel said it had 5.8 million users. In 2016, the company had a market share of 63 percent in the peer-to-peer clothing sharing market.

Functions

Clothing, accessories and cosmetics can be exchanged, sold and given away on clothing circles, with sales being by far the most widely used function. The retail markets of the Vinted Group are each nationally separated. Clothing for sale on clothing tops is therefore not visible on other Vinted platforms.

Users

A categorization of the offers on clothing circles shows that 95% of the offers fall into the area of women's clothing. Likewise, 95% of users are female. Most users are between 14 and 24 years old.

criticism

In 2016 Kevin Goonewardena criticized vice.com for the fact that women on Kleiderkreisel are exposed to sexual harassment and that Kleiderkreisel does not protect its users enough from it. Kleiderkreisel then announced an improvement in the reporting system.
